Food, Entrepreneurship and Employment between South Korea and Sardinia
What is Foodss?
The aim of the FOODSS project is to promote local Sardinian products in less conventional foreign markets in order to increase employment opportunities in the food sector and deliver a training programme with international reach for young food workers in Sardinia. The first phase of the project developed an innovative form of cooperation within the food economy, it enhanced the skills of the local workforce and the competitiveness of the island’s production system. It also strengthened partnerships between South Korea and Sardinia and promoted local professionals and employment mobility policies.
The aim of the second phase is to develop a cross-border exchange model between Sardinia and South Korea to improve the skills of the local workforce, enhance the competitiveness of the island’s production system and create opportunities for exchanges which will attract potential new investors.
What has Foodss produced?
The first edition of the project developed an innovative cooperation model in the food economy, improved the skills of the local workforce and the competitiveness of the island's production system. Furthermore, it has made it possible to strengthen the collaborative relationships between South Korea and Sardinia, and to enhance local professionalism and labor mobility policies.
The second edition aimed at 10 between Chefs, food managers and food and wine experts who are committed to carrying out an innovative training course in the food economy is underway.

- Improve the food economy skills of young Sardinians;
- Increase the opportunities for international cooperation between Sardinian companies and the most dynamic companies in the continent;
- Allow Sardinian companies to take part in international events to strengthen internationalisation;
- Create exchange opportunities that attract potential investors from unconventional international backgrounds;
- Activate innovative training courses for young Sardinians at an international level in the context of the food economy;
- Bringing businesses in the Sardinian food sector closer to new international markets;
- Allow Sardinian companies to participate in international events with a view to strengthening internationalization processes;
- Activate exchange and knowledge paths to strengthen the image of Sardinia among the project partners;
- Strengthen the tourist image of Sardinia through the role of food and culinary tradition between innovation and tradition.
The project is divided into four phases:
- Planning and holding of an innovative training course on the food economy for young Sardinians;
- Definition and implementation of a working model for an international exchange between Sardinia and South Korea which will lead to training opportunities and provide job placement possibilities for the young people;
- Organise the logistics of taking part in an international event on the food economy in South Korea;
- Communication and dissemination of the project, including an activity to capitalise on the participants’ experience in Korea.

Phase I 2019-2020
- 10 young Sardinians attended training course;
- 700 hours of training provided;
- 16 Sardinian companies from the food economy;
- Information campaign launched.
Phase II 2021-2022 (ongoing)
- 10 beneficiaries selected;
- Training courses held;
- Participation event in Korea.
The Foodss project has developed an innovative form of cooperation within the food economy, improving the skills of the local workforce and the competitiveness of the production system on the island.
The project has strengthened partnerships and defined a structured model for exchanges between South Korea and Sardinia, which will promote local professionals and employment mobility policies and create added value for an international workforce which is open to some of the most dynamic working environments on the planet.
