What is BEST?
BEST stands for Business Exchange and Student Training, a programme which gives young Sardinian graduates under the age of 35 the chance to win scholarships to go to the United States to acquire new managerial skills, which they can then use to create innovative local businesses.
Phase 1 (2018/2019): € 105,000.00
Phase 2 (2019/2020): € 245,000.00
- Grow the skills of young Sardinians;
- Enhance the employability of young Sardinians;
- Increase opportunities for international cooperation between Sardinia and the United States;
- Improve the competitiveness of the Sardinian economy with innovative training courses;
- Share good practices to help develop policies to incentivize new businesses.
The programme is divided into two parts:
- Lessons, workshops, seminars and boot camp at the Startup School of the Mind the Bridge Foundation in San Francisco, California.
- Placement or internship. This second stage is the backbone of the programme and forms the basis for the academic and networking activities. Placements will be held in companies and organisations in the area and the Silicon Valley and are a great opportunity to develop first-hand knowledge and experience of the professional and working world in the US.
Regional funding.
Agreements in accordance with art. 15 of Italian Law no. 241 of 7 August 1990 and subsequent amendments and additions, - objective: enhance the competitiveness of the education system in Sardinia and help grow the skills of young Sardinians and their employability.
Phase 1 (2018/2019):
- 3 scholarships awarded;
- Information campaign launched.
Phase 2 (2019/2020):
- 6 scholarships awarded which are currently under way.
The project has helped strengthen the management, innovation and networking entrepreneurial skills of the participants. The three participants of Phase 1 completed the whole programme and today are all founders/CEOs of their innovative start-ups.
